Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Review

Rated: PG-13

My Rating: 8/10

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is an electrifying and dynamic film that is a fitting conclusion to the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise. The use of vibrant colours and fast-paced action sequences makes this film a feast for the eyes. The direction and visual effects are impressive and captivating, making it a treat for both Marvel fans and casual viewers alike.

What sets "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" apart from other MCU films is its incredible use of music. The soundtrack, which features classic hits from the 80s to the early 2000s, is a perfect accompaniment to the film's story and adds an extra layer of emotion and nostalgia. Director James Gunn's love for music is evident throughout the film, as each song is expertly chosen to match the tone of the scene it accompanies. I love how Gunn intentionally writes the music into the script and plays it between takes to set the mood for the actors.

Speaking of James Gunn, his direction and writing are top-notch in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3". He has an incredible talent for developing each character and making them feel fully realized and three-dimensional. The chemistry between the Guardians is palpable and the dialogue is sharp and witty, perfectly balancing humour and heart.

It's clear that Gunn poured his heart and soul into this film, and it shows. The story is a poignant and emotional send-off for the characters we have grown to love over the past few years. It's a testament to Gunn's talent that he was able to create a film that is both a fitting conclusion to the Guardians' story and a thrilling standalone adventure. We can clearly see in this film that it is a James Gunn Film first and then a Marvel Studios film after.

One of the standout performances in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is Chris Pratt's portrayal of Star-Lord. Pratt's natural charisma and wit are on full display, and he brings a level of depth and emotion to the character that we haven't seen before. His interactions with the other Guardians are both hilarious and heart-warming, and his chemistry with Zoe Saldana's Gamora is especially impressive.

Rocket’s backstory is another highlight of the film. The emotional weight of his past is expertly conveyed through the use of CGI, and the audience is able to connect with him on a deeper level. It's a testament to the writing and direction of the film that a character that is essentially a talking raccoon can evoke such strong emotions from the audience.

Dave Bautista's Drax is another standout character in the film, providing plenty of laughs with his deadpan delivery and clueless demeanour. However, there are also moments where he shows a more vulnerable side, particularly in his interactions with Mantis (Pom Klementieff). Bautista's performance is a testament to his talent as an actor, and it's clear that he has a great understanding of the character he's playing.

Chukwudi Iwuji's portrayal of the High Evolutionary is a masterclass in villainous acting. He's absolutely terrifying in the role, and his presence on screen is enough to make the audience hate him for what he's done to Rocket. The casting choice was an excellent one, and Iwuji's performance is a testament to his talent as an actor.

Overall, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a fantastic addition to the MCU and a must-see for fans of the franchise. With its incredible use of music, fantastic character development, and thrilling action sequences, it's easily one of the best MCU films to date. Certainly the best MCU film since Spider-man No Way Home. I would rate this film an 8/10.  "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is an expertly crafted film that manages to balance humour, heart, and action in a way that only the MCU can. Chris Pratt's performance as Star-Lord is a standout, as is Rocket's emotional backstory and Dave Bautista's hilarious turn as Drax. Chukwudi Iwuji's terrifying portrayal of the High Evolutionary rounds out the cast, and it's clear that James Gunn has assembled a group of actors who are at the top of their game. Overall, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a fitting conclusion to the Guardians' story, and a must-see for Marvel fans everywhere.
