The Fall Guy 2024 Review

Rated: PG

My Rating: 8/10

Get ready to buckle up for a rollercoaster ride of adrenaline-pumping action and heartfelt romance in "The Fall Guy". Shot against the backdrop of Sydney's stunning landscapes, this Aussie gem is a true testament to the grit and determination of the stunt community.

At the heart of the film is Ryan Gosling, who effortlessly slips into the role of Colt, a seasoned stuntman with a heart of gold. After recovering from a nasty injury, Colt finds himself thrust back into the limelight when he's asked to double for the lead in a major sci-fi blockbuster. But it's not just any old job for Colt; it's a chance to reignite the flames with his long-time crush, Jodie, played with charm and finesse by Emily Blunt.

What sets "The Fall Guy" apart from your run-of-the-mill action flick is its commitment to old-school, practical stunts. From jaw-dropping car chases to death-defying leaps, every heart-stopping moment is brought to life without the aid of CGI wizardry. It's a refreshing nod to the days when stunt work was a true art form, and it's clear that the filmmakers have a deep respect for the craft.

But it's not all about the action; "The Fall Guy" delivers the goods on the writing front too. With sharp, witty dialogue and laugh-out-loud humor, the film keeps you on the edge of your seat while also tickling your funny bone. Much of the credit goes to director David Leitch, whose knack for blending fast-paced action with clever storytelling shines through once again.

As Colt navigates the treacherous world of Hollywood stunt work, it's impossible not to root for him every step of the way. Gosling brings a quiet intensity to the role, effortlessly balancing Colt's tough exterior with moments of vulnerability. And opposite him, Blunt shines as the tough-as-nails director who steals Colt's heart. Their chemistry is electric, and you can't help but be swept up in their whirlwind romance.

Overall, "The Fall Guy" is a triumph on every level. With its jaw-dropping stunts, sharp writing, and pitch-perfect performances, it's a must-see for action fans and romantics alike. So do yourself a favour and catch it on the big screen; trust me, this is one ride you won't want to miss. I'd give it a solid 8/10, and I highly recommend you grab your popcorn and settle in for the thrill of a lifetime.
