Captain America: Brave New World 2025 Review

 Rated: M

My Rating: 6.5/10

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to evolve, and Captain America: Brave New World is a testament to that progression. Stepping into the iconic role of Captain America, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson brings a refreshing energy that distinguishes him from his predecessor, Steve Rogers.

One of the film's strengths lies in Mackie's portrayal of Sam Wilson. He doesn't attempt to mimic Steve Rogers; instead, he brings his own flair to the role. Sam's grounded nature, combined with his unwavering moral compass, makes him a relatable and compelling hero. It's evident that Mackie is comfortable in the role, delivering a performance that feels both genuine and inspiring.

Harrison Ford joins the MCU as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, taking over the role after the passing of William Hurt. Ford's portrayal adds gravitas to the film, and his transformation into Red Hulk is a visual spectacle. For fans who grew up watching Ford's iconic roles, seeing him in this context is both nostalgic and thrilling.

The film's tone deviates from typical superhero fare, embracing a 90s espionage thriller vibe. This stylistic choice offers a refreshing change, with political intrigue and covert operations taking center stage. The cinematography and pacing reflect this genre shift, providing a unique viewing experience within the MCU.

Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns, now the villainous Leader. While the character's return had potential, his portrayal lacks depth and fails to leave a lasting impression. The Leader's motivations are not thoroughly explored, making him a less compelling antagonist compared to previous MCU villains.

Captain America: Brave New World offers a fresh perspective within the MCU, with standout performances from Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford. The film's espionage elements and character-driven narrative set it apart from its predecessors. However, the underdeveloped villain detracts from the overall impact. And that’s why I give this film a 6.5/10.
