What goes into a score
The review explains how the work comes together: its storytelling, direction, performances, cinematography, editing, sound and overall impact. Different films and shows have different aims, so these are considerations rather than a fixed points formula.
A comedy, a horror film and a quiet drama can succeed in very different ways. The written review gives the context that a number alone cannot.
Scores & gold stars
The gold stars are a visual version of the same score, shown out of five. An 8/10 fills four stars; a 7.5/10 fills three and three-quarter stars. They are not a second rating or an audience vote.
A score out of 10 is not a Rotten Tomatoes approval percentage or an IMDb audience average. Scores and viewing information on TPCR Movie Recs come from the sources identified there and are separate from TPCR’s own reviews.
